What To Expect.

SASTAK arranges placements for SAWS workers on farms across the UK. We place workers on a variety of fruit & vegetable farms, and the majority of this work is manual harvesting work. We also work with specialist skills on stock farms in which case workers maybe working on their own or within a group. Our clients vary in size, and therefore the number of workers on a site can vary from only 1 worker right up to 150+ workers.

The majority of the work is manual and unskilled and can include type of work such as;

• Erecting poly tunnels
• Irrigation work
• Planting crops
• Picking crops by hand (e.g. strawberries/raspberries etc.)
• Weeding, husbandry, thinning etc.
• Packing fruit & vegetables

There are some seasonal jobs that will involve the operation of agricultural machines and vehicles.  Participants wishing to be considered for these placements should already have some experience of the agricultural machinery/vehicles and the safe handling of them.  These participants must hold a full driving license and must bring these documents with them to the UK, together with a verified translation (into the English language) stating the participant’s name, home address and the category of vehicle the license permits him or her to drive.

At the end of your 6 months placement, you are not required to leave the UK but you must stop working for the employer, if you want to continue to work in the UK you will need to ensure that you adhere to the Accession (Immigration and Worker Authorisation) Regulations 2007.

Under UK legislation your employer is required to treat you equally and fairly as well as provide you with a safe working environment and to pay you in accordance with the Agricultural Wages Order (AWO).
